CHILDREN
This lesson will be on children and parents.
What Gods word has to say about children and parents.
Golden nuggets for children and parents.
Exodus 20:12 says; Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be
long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
This verse speaks of children treating their parents with respect.
That children must be obediant to their parents.
But it goes further than that.
When the parents grow old it is the childrens place to take care of them.
In the early church the children that didn't follow these things didn't live long in
the promised land.
That sounds a bit harsh but God is all about the family and the church.
Ephesians 6:1 says; Children obey your parents in the Lord for this is right.
The family is like an army situation as far as rank goes.
Father, mother, and children.
If the parents are not Christians the children must still obey their parents.
But if the parents ask the child to do something that is against God they should
not do it.
The children must put God first before their parents.
Colossians 3:20 says; Children, obey your parents in all things for this is well
pleasing to the Lord.
When Paul says all things it is not an absolute.
If you ask your children to do something that is an abomination to God they
should not do it.
For the Lord is the head of all things.
Ephesians 6:2 says; Honor your father and mother which is the first command-
ment with promise.
God is very much into family.
But a family that puts God first in all things is very good.
A family based on God, love, peace, caring, and harmony in the home is what
God wants.
Without those things we are failing in Gods perfect plan for family.
Deuteronomy 5:16 says; Honor your father and your mother, so the Lord your
God has commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may be
well with you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
Respect for parents will build a strong family.
God is making a promise to the children in this verse.
If you will obey and respect your father and mother you will have a good, blessed
life, in the new land.
This was a promise God made to the Israelites when they were lead out of Egypt
by Moses.
But this promise stands for the children today too.
New land could be home, job, family and so on.
God will bless children who respect and obey their parents.
Ephesians 6:3 says; that it may be well with you and you may live long on earth.
This verse is confirmation that from the beginning this promise stands.
God ia the same today, as He was yesterday, and will be tomorrow.
The Lord will bless all children who follow this commandment.
If the children grow up in a Christian atmosphere the family will be close knit, and
the children will want to respect and obey, and the parents will be fair and
loving toward their children.
Ephesians 6:4 says; And you, fathers, do ot provoke your children to wrath, but
bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.
Fathers encourage your children with kind and loving words when they have done
a good job on something.
Set limitations for your children according to their age and maturity.
There will be times when they are disobediant, and when that happens do not be
too severe with your children.
The punishment may be a spanking but there is no reason to beat your children
to the point of physical injuries.
Better to not spank at all when you are angry, you don't know your own strength.
Ground them, take TV away, radio, and things that will make them think about
what they have done.
Colossians 3:21 says; Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become
discouraged.
Provoke means stir up anger.
If you call your children names like stupid, dumb, brat, and so on you are send-
ing a message to them that they have no self worth.
They begin to believe all the names that you have called them.
But rather raise your children up by teaching them Gods laws and ways we
should live.
Teach your children the way disciples teach you with love, compassion, and
fairly.
Genesis 18:19 says; For I have known him, in order that he may command his
his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord
to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abrahim what He
has spoken to him.
For I know him shows that the Lord has a way to bring about His will in all things.
God knew all of us before we were ever born and knew how we would live and
our good points and bad too.
Family is very important to God.
All Christians are part of Gods family and He loves us all the same.
How we raise our children makes a difference on how strong the family is.
As Christians we know that teaching our children from a young age about God
and His ways makes a big difference.
Our children grow up to be hard workers, love the Lord and serve Him, and to
teach their children to love, honor, and serve our Lord our God who is over all
things and in control of each of our lives.
The scriptures I used in this lesson are: Ephesians 6:1-4, Deuteronomy 5:16,
Exodus 20:12, Genesis 18:19, Colossians 3:20-21.
My prayer is that who ever reads this lesson, the Lord gave me, will read the
scriptures and see what the Lord shows you. I also pray that you will teach
your children this lesson. It is never too soon to start. Even at the age of 3
using smaller words of course so they can understand. So share this lesson
with your children. And parents listen to the words spoken to you too. I know
I didn't cover mothers in this lesson but as a mother you must teach your
children respect by respecting your husband. It is also your job to be cook,
nurse, teacher, and care giver to your children.
God bless you and your family, may the Lord keep you close to Him.
PRAISE GOD OUR FATHER, JESUS OUR SAVIOR, AND THE HOLY SPIRIT
THAT LIVES WITHIN ALL CHRISTIANS.
